This is a very simple exercise designed to make you aware of all the roles you play in your life. We are complex beings. We are sons and daughters, employees and employers, siblings, mothers and fathers, scout leaders, church leaders, volunteers, and on and on.
Make a list of all the roles you play. Don't leave yourself out. Put "self" at the top of the list. This is not meant to be narcissistic attention to self, but the realization that one cannot care for others if one is not healthy in body, mind, and spirit.
You will be writing goals for each of these roles in a future exercise. You may find it easier to categorize your roles at a higher level. My personal preference are the categories "personal" (which includes my health and physical goals), "home" (which includes my house, my finances, and my family), "school" (I am a full-time student), "business" (this covers my consulting work and has subcategories for my clients, marketing activities, and administrative activities), and "professional" (which includes personal promotion, professional aspirations, volunteer activities, and so on).
Tomorrow: What do you want for this lifetime?
